5 Things You Should Not Do on Social Media

We’ve all seen them. Posts on social media where you’ve thought ”this is going to catch fire”. It can either be your best friend, your parents or someone you don’t even know – or it could be you. There are certain things that you should not do when it comes to social media, and in this article, we’ll focus on 5 things that you should not do on social media.

1. Don’t mention anything that you don’t want everyone else to know

Obviously, you can adjust your settings on most social media so that you’re in control of who sees your posts. However, what you’re not in control of is if those who can see your posts decide to share them – not online, but offline. Let’s say that you share some personal information that one of your friends then decides to tell other friends about. Before you know it, you don’t have any control over who knows what. Because of that, you should never mention anything on social media that you do not want to be completely public about.

2. Don’t do posts about your personal sex life or other explicit subjects

Some people are quite open-minded and don’t care about sharing information about their sex life. Perhaps you’ve just bought a realistic penis sleeve and want the whole world to know? Well, that could be, but try to see it from the other side of the table – your grandmother might not find that information amusing. If you want to talk about sex or other explicit topics, it’s a good idea to find a group or a forum for that.

3. Don’t judge other people

When it comes to judging other people, social media is the place where it happens. But why, actually? What do people get from judging each other, and why do they have to let the person that they’re judging know about it? Don’t bet that person. It’s ok to have your own believes and thoughts about certain people and their actions, but you don’t have to share that on social media. If everyone can refrain from judging each other, social media would be a much nicer place.

4. Don’t get scammed

There are scammers everywhere online, also on social media, and you’ll be surprised to see just how creative these scammers can be. If you get contacted by people you do not know, remember to keep your guards up, just in case. The same goes if you receive an email from Facebook, Twitter or other social media and the email seems a bit suspicious – the scammers also sometimes pretend to represent the social media. And an important rule of thumb – never ever share your credit card info or other confidential information with anyone online!

5. Don’t think that social media is representative

Let’s be honest. Most of the stuff we post on social media is only a snapshot from our everyday life, and often this snapshot is taken out of context. That can lead users of social media to believe that everyone is living the perfect life with no everyday challenges or bad days like the rest of us. Rest assured, everyone has a bad day now and then, and what you see on social media is mostly a well-polished image of how people really live.

Have fun and be polite!

That was 5 things you shouldn’t do on social media. Let’s end this article with 2 things that you should do – remember to be polite and have fun. After all, that’s what social media really should be about, right?
